Building world class experiences at The Works

The Reece Group has moved into a new era with their new premises in Cremorne - the tech hub of Melbourne. With Next’s experience and service design capability, it was a natural fit to jump in with the teams at Reece.

The project saw us involved in creating world class experiences and services within the incredible design of the building, and readying Reece’s people for the move after 30 years at the previous head office in Burwood.

Co-designed experiences

The Next team collaborated with the Workplace Experience and Technology Operations teams to build a vision and principles for two new service teams at The Works. The Concierge and TechBar teams would be the faces of the building - welcoming people, solving problems, and creating moments that matter.

Our task was to co-design and shape ideal experiences, how the teams needed to operate, and how these teams could live and breathe the principles every day.

Future ready

Reece moving to the The Works sees an evolution from a store service support centre to an innovative and future-ready place for growing technology teams, customer support, and welcoming in a new era of thinking.

Next brought the Reece team along on the journey to help them transition not only into a new way of working but also back into the office after lengthy COVID lockdowns.

Outcomes

The Tech Bar

Gone are the days of IT tucked away in the basement, TechBar is a walk up support service run from Level 1 at the Works. The team is always on deck to provide tech support to the Reece team, whether for quick fixes, onboarding new starters, or more complex problem solving.

The Concierge

As the first faces that you see when you enter the Works, the Concierge team represents the Reece brand. They’re across all the activity, events, and happenings at The Works, ensuring that all that enter the building have a great experience.

Empowered teams at the Works

Whilst the Next team designed the lived experiences and interactions at the Works, we also supported the Reece projects teams within the building to craft their own vision and principles for life at the Works.

Understanding the space


Throughout the project, Next was involved in curating
 walk-throughs while The Works was still a construction site.

Seeing the building while it was under construction gave the Next team a deep understanding of the design of the space and how it would function.

By gathering these insights, Next was able to design an experience to match the incredible building.
